FAQ

What Results Can I Expect?

Teeth Whitening can achieve fantastic results of 5 to 14 shades whiter. This can be achieved on teeth whitening the enamel is in good condition and you have not had a teeth whitening treatment for 12 months. Results will be reduced if you use any home whitening products or have had an in-chair treatment within the last year.

Can I choose what shade I want my teeth?

While most clients are thrilled with the results some have unrealistic expectations due to filtered results on social media or ads on television. Teeth whitening will not always be able to produce paper white teeth like seen in the movies. This is usually a result of having the surface of the teeth replaced with porcelain veneers or composite bonding. Some people however are lucky and have very white natural enamel. These clients will get the whitest results. Others will have a varying range of shades depending on their natural tooth enamel colour and the condition of their enamel.

How long does a treatment take?

Less than one hour is all that is needed to achieve maximum results.

Is teeth whitening safe?

We offer the latest whitening gel approved for use in Australia. We have a hygienic non-touch procedure at NO time will a technician touch you or your mouth. Our gel is gentle and safe, problems are extremely rare.Teeth Whitening is safe for crowns and veneers although these will not lighten as much as natural teeth.

Is teeth whitening suitable for everyone?

Teeth whitening is a treatment most people want and can have, however, it is not recommended for children under 16 years of age or for women who are pregnant or breastfeeding. Do not have a teeth whitening treatment if you have gum disease or are requiring dental work.

How long will the results last?

Teeth will maintain their fresh new appearance for around one year. Re-staining depends largely on diet and lifestyle. Smoking, coffee, tea, fruit juice, sodas all staining foods and beverages will eventually re-stain the surface of your teeth.

AFTERCARE

If you want to keep your brilliant smile shining bright white, here are a few guidelines to follow after whitening your teeth.

AVOID DRINKING COLORED BEVERAGES

After your whitening treatment, avoid strongly colored beverages such as all:

  • Red wine
  • Coffee
  • Tea
  • Beer
  • Fruit juices
  • Sodas

These drinks tend to stain teeth due to their vibrant or artificial color. If you feel like you can’t miss out on your morning coffee or a glass of wine at happy hour, consider drinking through a straw. Straws help keep liquids away from your teeth, so your smile will remain whiter longer.

DON’T EAT FOODS THAT STAIN

Similar to avoiding certain beverages, there are a wide range of foods to steer clear of after whitening your teeth. Foods that are acidic, greasy, and/or colored damage your enamel and contribute to staining.

Here are some common foods to avoid after whitening your teeth along with some examples of each:

  • Dark-colored sauces (red sauce, soy sauce, balsamic vinegar, etc.)
  • Colorful spices (curry, paprika, turmeric, etc.)
  • Red meat
  • Citrus and other acidic fruits (lemons, oranges, limes, mangoes, kiwis, plums, etc.)
  • Highly pigmented berries (blueberries, blackberries, raspberries, etc.)
  • Colorful vegetables (tomatoes, carrots, spinach, etc.)
  • Milk and dark chocolate
  • Naturally and artificially colored candy (Skittles®, M&Ms®, Smarties®, etc.)

A good rule of thumb is if it’ll stain a shirt, it’ll also stain your teeth. By avoiding these foods, you can ensure your teeth will remain white for much longer.

DONT SMOKE

In addition to being harmful to your oral health in general, using tobacco products is one of the fastest ways to stain or re-stain your teeth. People who smoke or chew tobacco will likely find that they have to constantly touch up their teeth to maintain a white smile, especially compared to those who don’t use tobacco products. It’s recommended to quit smoking and/or chewing, not only for health reasons, but to keep your teeth a pearly white color.

AVOID COLORED PRODUCTS

In the days following your teeth whitening treatment, you’ll want to avoid colored dental products like toothpaste and mouthwash. Blue, red, orange, and purple colors can re-stain your teeth faster than products that are white or light in color.

You may also find that your teeth are a bit sensitive after whitening, to alleviate this common symptom, try toothpaste and mouthwash that is specifically made for sensitive teeth. Talk to your dentist about which options are best for you.

WHAT TO EAT AND DRINK AFTER TEETH WHITENING

We’ve gone over a lot of don’ts. While there are many things to avoid, there are also many different foods and beverages that are completely safe to consume after having your teeth whitened.

You may want to consider trying a “white diet,” which includes foods that are white in color or colorless for 10-14 days following your treatment. Below are some foods and beverages that are safe for your teeth after whitening:

Foods you can eat:

  • Plain yogurt
  • White rice
  • Uncolored pasta
  • White fish (cod, tilapia, haddock, etc.)
  • Chicken
  • Tofu
  • Oatmeal
  • Cereal without any artificial coloring or dyes
  • Egg whites
  • Potatoes
  • Almonds
  • Cashews
  • Cauliflower
  • Chickpeas
  • Cheese without any artificial coloring or dyes
  • Pears
  • Bananas
  • Vanilla ice cream
  • White chocolate
  • Rice Krispie treats

Beverages you can drink:

  • Still or sparkling water (unflavored)
  • Milk
  • Coconut water
  • Coconut wilk
  • White wine
  • Clear alcohol with clear mixers (gin and tonic, vodka and club soda, etc.)
